King of the Pirates: Tactical Update 8

“Rex Skyler here, reporting live from the Action 5 News chopper! We’re live on scene here as the offworld pirate band “Ryan’s Rebels” engages with the Tortuga Fusiliers.”

Honey-colored hair whipped into a frenzy by the wind surging through the open door of the Warrior VTOL’s passenger compartment, Rex offered the holocamera a sensual smile before stepping out of the shot so her body wouldn’t block what the audience was really paying to see—scenes of the carnage wrought below. A wide swath of the city had simply been leveled, and while the crimson and gold Action 5 Chopper was too high up to get a view of the corpses in the streets, the holocam lingered lovingly on each piece of rubble to better give their viewers a feel for how many might be dead.

“We’re once again the first on the scene of the battle. The Channel 8 “Le Ocho” News Chopper is conspicuously late again. Are they having engine trouble?” Rex Skyler glanced towards a side monitor, making sure her crew had switched the feed over to a stock recording taken a month ago. She watched for a moment as the sleek blue-and-white form of a helicopter rose from the roof of a fortified office building that bristled with gun emplacements. Its motion was tracked slowly by four cylinders—which opened fire the moment the helicopter was high enough that a crash would almost certainly prove fatal for the crew. The helicopter burst into flames as the first light autocannon rounds smashed through the bubble-shaped cockpit. The autocannons tracked the target’s spiraling descent, and continued firing for a full ten seconds after the chopper smashed into the pavement and exploded.

Rex laughed viciously and asked rhetorically, “Or perhaps they once again ran afoul of antiaircraft fire from our Action 5 Partisan Heavy News Tank? And so Action 5 news is proud to present you with this exclusive footage of the battle—and it’s going to stay exclusive, even if we have to shoot down the competition ourselves! Because those chumps over at Le Ocho aren’t brave enough to bring you the Action News that you crave!”
